Pump for 500ft Well

How do I know how big a pump to get? I don't know how big the old one is. My well is 500' deep, but I only get a 1/2 gallon per minute. It is for a single family home and barn with a small number of animals.

It would be best to try and find out who drilled the well. They should be able to tell you how much the well can produce in gallons per minute and at the same time what the pumping water level was at that volume. This will help in determining how large of a pump you would be able to install.
