Replacing an older submersible pump

Postby lwparchive » Wed Jan 02, 2013 4:22 pm

I am looking at the 5gs05411c submersible pump . I took out a 40 yr old Gould serial #15991 or 1599p { I do not know the gpm } , with a 1/4hp 3450rpm franklin motor. the well is approx. 50 ft deep with about 15 ft of water , so I'm looking at running the pump with higher pressure to keep the gpm down . I have never had a problem with getting water , but just in case what about run dry protection? Will the D-Square pressure swith be enough or should I use the D-Square with the shut off trip lever on it that shuts down if the pressure drops below 10psi of its turn on pressure? Would a flow restrictor inserted above the pump do any good? Are there any safetys built into this gould pump? Sorry about all the questions , I could call if you don't mind.

You will want to use the Square D pressure switch where it will open the contacts if the pressure falls below 10 PSI.
