Jet pump pressure problem

I have a fairly new jet pump, 1/2 horse. Pumps water out of a holding
airalator tank a few feet away. I have a check valve/spring brand new on
inlet side of pump.I have a cut off after outlet. When the valve is shut off
and the pressure comes full, shouldn't the pump hold that pressure between
the 2 points of shut off?

Driving me crazy looking for a leak because the Brand new Gauge drops
pressure sort of fast.I can not find a leak, and not one that should be
leaking as the gauge shows.

Sir,

Yes the pressure should hold if you have a check valve on the inlet side of the pump and a gate valve on the discharge side. If you close the gate valve and the pump comes to full pressure and shuts off, then the pressure should hold. If it isn't, then you have a either a leak somewhere, your gate valve is not shutting all the way or an obstruction/faulty check valve.
