Trouble priming J5SH

Postby ceverman » Wed Sep 03, 2014 1:54 pm

Pipes froze so I turned pump off and cannot seem to get it to start back up. I filled the priming pipe with water and turned the pump back on, but nothing happens. There is no reading on the pressure gauge. Help!

Does the pump actually turn on? If so, is the pump trying to pump any water? The best thing to do is to disconnect the pump from your discharge piping and try running it open discharge, if your able. After priming the pump, does the pump keep its prime without turning the pump on? In other words, after priming does the water go away?

It turns on, but it doesn't seem like anything is happening. The gauge does not change and the water in the pipe I use to prime it does not change. Which is the discharge pipe? I have never had a problem before, but for some reason this time I can't seem to get it to go. I hate to have to call the plumber *he put this in last year, so it's pretty new), but that may be my only option.

Your discharge pipe is the pipe on top of the pump. If the pump is full of water and you turn it on, water should gush out. If nothing is happening when the pump turns on and there is water in the pump, then, this leads me to believe the impeller is not turning, in which case, the pump could be locked up, which usually will trip your breaker or possibly a broken motor shaft. I would have a professional come take a look at the pump to make sure it is installed and primed properly.

Thanks. I guess I'll call the plumber.
