WSO511B Rebuild

Postby joe1shoe » Sun Jun 02, 2013 8:44 pm

I replaced my sewage (septic tank) pump (Gould WSO511B) and I would like to rebuild the old one if possible. The impeller spins freely by hand (not plugged in). When I plug it in, sometimes it spins fine, and is very smooth. But most times it hums and won't start. I removed the base to make sure nothing was obstructing the Impeller. I also removed the oil cap and it still has oil in it. It does not appear to be leaking. Can I rebuild the pump? is it worth doing? These are very strong pumps and I would like to have one around. Thanks

Sir,
If the motor is not turning, or, is intermittently turning, then you either have a problem with the start capacitor or the start winding. The best recommendation would be to take the pump to a motor shop for evaluation. If it is just a start capacitor, then they should be able to replace it and the oil.

Thank you for the input. I talked to a pump rebuild shop about the repair. They ask how long it was in service. I said 15-18 years. They said don't bother. It did it's job. It is not worth the effort to repair. I guess they are right. RIP my Septic friend.

I would agree, given the age of the pump. Good luck.
