Is this type of pump available?

Postby lwparchive » Fri Nov 09, 2012 4:41 pm

I have a 1 1/2 h.p. 220 motor to run my pump for lawn irrigation. I pump water from my lake. Have lived here 41 years and little problems with my pump. Sometimes the foot valve would clog and the timer would put the pump on but it would not pull the water. It did NOT ruin the impeller. In the last two years, I have had FOUR impellers installed. My guy says it is because I have an air leak somewhere and the motor turns the impeller and there is no water to act as a lube and the impeller burns up. Could you sell me a pump that would NOT burn out the impeller in case of air in the line and no water went thru to pump for 90 minutes?

Sir,

Unfortunately, I am not aware of any centrifugal pump that is designed to run dry for that period of time. Usually, an impeller failure is due to either running the pump dry or cavitation. In either case, the application would need to be corrected.
